Between The Rubber And The Road

A Lorax stuffed toy under the back wheel of a car

A terrible tragedy has happened today, one of Eliza’s favorite toys has been taken away. Not by a bird, or a 5 alarm fire, but by a white Subaru car’s right rear tire.

It had fallen out of Eliza’s stroller right as we started our walk. We were going to the doctor for an ultrasound, when we found out Lorax was missing we went into shock.

Where could it be, she does love it so. It must have fallen out before we even started to go. We looked in the halls and the sidewalk below. It wasn’t anywhere we had been and we had to go.

Into the exam room we all went with a pout, but once we started seeing new baby we almost did shout. Look, there’s a hand and a foot and a heart. We forgot that Eliza and Lorax were for now apart.

New baby, a boy, we are seeing up on the television screen. Eliza, do you know what this is going to mean? You’re gonna be a sister to a little brother. He’ll call you big sis, me dad, mom mother.

It’s so amazing the family we’ll be, new baby boy, Eliza, Amanda and me! The fun we’ll all have and the memories we’ll make. Remember when Eliza ate her first birthday cake?A stuffed Lorax being crushed by a car tire

We are all together and know what we are, so we make our way back to our new to us car. As you may remember we had all but forgot, that when we started we had Lorax, but now we did not.

Our memories came back in a flash as we spied on the ground, Eliza’s Lorax sitting there not making a sound. He could not speak for he was stuck right there under that neighboring car, in the parking spot right next to where we was, were and are.

The car’s owner was gone, who knew when he’d be back. We could try lifting the car with our hands or perhaps with a jack. But you can’t just lift up some stranger’s car, what if it were to slip and the paint it did mar.

The Lorax would be there until the car vacated the space, hopefully some other kid would come walking right by the same place. They might see it sitting there, and if it was still in good shape, take it home and play with it while watching the Lorax on VHS tape.

Eliza will be ok without it, if need be we can get another. We might need to give one to her little brother!

Well, goodbye for now I will see you next time, when we will speak regularly and not try to rhyme. It has been a real treat to relay you this story but now it’s time to go watch the Broncos reclaim their old glory!
